RULES AND REGULATIONS OF PERODUA ECO-CHALLENGE
1. Vehicle
- The car is a NON-REGISTERED VEHICLE and it cannot be registered, transferred or sold to another party.
- The receiving institutions may use the vehicle for activities relating to R&D or knowledge enhancement after the race day.
- If parts of the vehicle or vehicle itself need to be disposed after this project is over, the institution in question shall write to the organiser stating its intent, reasons and providing pictures of the main parts to be disposed.
- Delivery of the car to the institutions will be done via our nearest outlets.
2. Development Fund
· Each selected institution will be given a RM10,000.00 development fund in order to modify the car accordingly.
· The cheques will ONLY be issued to a registered organisation within the instititutions and NOT to individuals.
· The institutions are allowed to seek additional fundings on their own.
3. Sponsorship
· A participating institution (an institution selected to receive the development fund and a vehicle) may raise funds through sponsorships.
· Sponsor’s logo placement on the vehicle will be advised during the vehicle hand over ceremony. [This has been advised in the handout distributed on 24/2].
4. Evaluation Criteria
3.1 Longest Distance
· Cars will be divided into two categories – manual and automatic transmissions.
· Cars are to be driven on the circuit until complete stop.
· A car that travels the longest distance with the least amount of penalties will be declared the winner.
3.2 Engineering Presentation
· Each team will be given a booth (10 by 20 ft) with display boards for the team to put up their modification information.
· Judges will be going around the booth display area. Teams are given 5 minutes each to give a brief explanation.
· The booth must be manned at all times during the race day to field questions from the media and public.
3.3 Design & Decoration
· The design aspect (aerodynamics, visual, etc) will be a factor in awarding points to the teams.
· All teams are required to decorate their car according to their own theme – Eco, natural, environment, earth, etc.
· All teams are required to insert their institutions’ logo on both side of the front doors for easy identification by race marshals during the race. Logo size and placement will be advised during the vehicle hand over ceremony.
3.4 Attendance/Participation
· Points will also be awarded to teams with the best participation not just from their team members but also from the supporters they bring during the race day.
3.5 Prizes
The categories are as follows:
a) Top 3 cars in the manual transmission category.
b) Top 3 cars in the automatic transmission category.
c) Top 3 prizes in the engineering presentation,design and participation category.
Total prizes for the Perodua Eco-Challenge is RM88,000.
5. Modification Information
· All modifications should not cause the car to weigh less than 650kg (exclusive of driver) with full fluid condition.
· Modifications to the listed items below are strictly prohibited:
a) Main body structure – A/B/C pillar, floor, side member, front end and collision related structure.
b) Cutting, hole punching (more than 20mm in diameter).
c) Bending or any type of modification that reduce the structural strength.
d) Instrument panel.
e) ABS (for ABS equipped vehicle).
f) Steering system.
g) Brake system.
h) Chassis system – except wheels and tyres.
i) Transmission – including drive shaft.
j) Homologated items such as head lamp, rear combi, side turn mirror, 3rd brake light, etc
k) CO intrusion into the cabin will lead to disqualification. Permitted CO level intrusion is less than 10 ppm.
6. Engine
• Major modifications allowed EXCEPT to engine block, cylinder head and cylinder head cover.
• Modifications to fuel system is permissible. All connections must be inspected and approved by appointed Perodua personnel 1-2 days before the race day at the event venue.
• Usage of alternative fuel (hydrogen, NGV, fuel cell, solar, etc) is strictly prohibited. All forms of octane booster or fuel-enriching substance are also prohibited.
• Adding or removing parts (attached to engine unit i.e. alternator, pump, air-cond compressor etc) to help increase fuel efficiency or mileage is permissible.
7. Race Circuit
• The race venue is held at Melaka International Motorsports Circuit (MIMC), Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
• The race date is 26 June 2010, Saturday. The time will be informed during the vehicle hand over ceremony.
• Circuit lap distance 1.6 kilometers.
8. Driver’s Requirements
• Minimum weight of 50kg.
• Healthy.
• Possess a valid driving license.
• Must be staff or student of participating institution and must be included in the 20-member team.
• A reserve driver is mandatory.
• Professional drivers are strictly prohibited.
• Seat belt and helmet must be worn at all times.
• Driver change is allowed as well as pit stops.
• The driver must wear full safety gear (helmet, racing outfit, proper shoes, etc). The organiser will not be providing this safety gear.
9. Petrol and Lubricants
• Each team will be given 1 liter of Petronas Primax95. Other types of fuel are strictly prohibited.
• Replacement of existing lubricants is prohibited. If refilling is necessary, the team is required to use lubricants that the organiser specifies.
10. Race Penalties
• Cars deemed to be slower than the minimum lap time will be penalised according to the distance penalty.
• Collisions during the race will result in distance penalty (minor) to disqualification (major) to the party deemed at fault by the race marshalls.
• All decisions are final.
11. Car Delivery to Circuit
• The institutions are to deliver the car to the circuit on 24 June 2010, Thursday by 10 a.m. latest.
• 24 June 2010 is the official test drive day. After this date no test drive on the circuit is permissible.
• A full check on the cars will be done by authorised Perodua personnel starting 8:30 a.m., Friday, 25 June 2010. Any modifications deemed illegal will have to be rectified during the afternoon session or the cars will be disqualified. All teams are required to be equipped with the necessary tools. All rectification costs shall be borned by the participating teams.
- The cars will be quarantined from 7 p.m. onwards on 25 June 2010.
- All costs (inclusive of sea/air freight, if relevant) relating to the transportation between race venue and institutions shall be borned by the institutions. The race vehicles shall not be driven to and from the race venue. Incompliant to this ruling will result in disqualification in all categories and participating team will be asked to return the Development Fund within 30 days from the race day.
- The organiser shall not be held liable for any damages or losses.
- The deadlines are non-negotiable.
12. Buntings and Banners
- Perodua will provide softcopy templates for bunting and banner for the participating institutions.
- It is strongly encouraged that the institutions put up buntings and banners to promote the event on campus.
- The cost of producing the advertising materials will have to be borned by the institutions.
14. Participants
- The maximum number of people in a team is 20 inclusive of the driver and a reserve driver.
- No more than 4 people shall be from academic or supporting staff i.e. lecturers, technicians.
- If the participating institutions have participated in Eco-Challenge 2009, we only allow a maximum of 40% "repeat participants". A repeat participant is a person who has participated in Eco-Challenge 2009, regardless of staff or student.
- Please observe the note at the bottom of "List of Participants" that describes the definition of student. Failure to comply with this ruling will lead to automatic rejection of the institution's proposal.
- Revision to the “List of Participants” is allowed ONLY ONCE. The list submitted with the proposal is designated “Rev 0”. The revision is called “Rev 1”. If we do not receive “Rev 1” by 31 March 2010, we assume “Rev 0” is final.
- Only personnel whose names are registered in the "List of Participants" will be allowed entry to the race venue on 24-25 June 2010. Participants need to show their staff or student ID for identification purposes.
- The format for the "List of Participants" is attached.
13. Institution Visits
• A team from Perodua may visit selected institutions for a visit during the build process in May and June 2010.
• A one-week notice will be given to the institution’s liaison personnel for preparation.
14. Intellectual Property
• The organiser will not lay claim of any rights over intellectual findings in respect of design and process innovations resulting from this project.
• The organiser cannot release technical information deemed confidential, i.e. technical drawings, specifications, etc.
15. Letter of Indemnity
• All selected participating institutions are required to sign the “Letter of Indemnity”.
16. Receipts
• Each selected participating institution is required to submit an official receipt within 3 weeks after receiving the Development Fund cheque. The receipt should be made to “Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd” ONLY.
• The institution witll be barred from the race for failure of issuance of the receipt within the specified timeframe.
• Each winning institution is required to submit an official receipt within 3 weeks after receiving the prize money failing which the institution will be excluded from any future events organised by Perodua and its group of companies. The receipt should be made to “Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd” ONLY.
17. Contact Person
• All communications after 5 February 2010 with Perodua with regards to the Eco-Challenge general enquiry should be addressed to Pn Kintan Azura Mohd Yusuf at k_azura@perodua.com.my and Pn Haslinda Alias at haslindaa@perodua.com.my via e-mail ONLY. • All technical questions pertaining to car modifications, race rules, etc will be advised later.
• All e-mail communications should be cc to alias@perodua.com.my.
• Updates on “Rules and Regulations of Eco-Challenge” and the indemnity form will be forwarded to the liaison personnel of each institution. Queries from any other members will not be entertained.
• All communications prior to 5 February 2010 should be done with any of the personnel listed in Item 3 of “Additional Information”.
18. Rights
• Perodua reserves the rights to make any changes to this “Rules and Regulation of Eco-Challenge” as deemed necessary and it shall not be held liable for any damages losses arising from such changes.
